All About OCLC FirstSearch

Draft pricing for OCLC FirstSearch (updated 7/12/12), based on libraries that indicated interest in subscribing.

Please read the AIRS / OCLC Fact Sheet which highlights key aspects of FirstSearch and the impacts on Colorado libraries if the FirstSearch contract is not renewed. This fact sheet also includes an FAQ section, which we will continue to populate with answers to your OCLC-related questions.

An online FirstSearch Subscription Form, either to place an order OR to let us know that you will not be placing an order based on the DRAFT pricing for your library.

Information about whom to contact with questions  you might have

Quick Background: Previously, we asked libraries to fill out this short OCLC FirstSearch Interest Form. After 82 responses (some duplicates) only 72 libraries expressed interest in participating and in seeing a price quote. (See #1, above).

Context Background: A non-renewal of the statewide OCLC FirstSearch contract would not affect subscribers to the OCLC cataloging service, the OCLC ILL subsystem or those that use other discrete OCLC services (e.g. VDX/ZPortal – the SWIFT ILL system).

But non-renewal of the statewide contract would have several impacts. Please read about those in the AIRS/OCLC Fact Sheet.

OCLC provided information to explain its perspective. Please read these two OCLC-supplied documents [Colorado Renewal 2013] and [Why Does AIRS Subscribe to FS WorldCat]. Also, here’s a list of libraries that catalog through OCLC. Check: is your library listed?
